Specialized Services - Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a method in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin and is used to treat wrinkles, scars and uneven pigmentation. They are categorized according to their depth of penetration. The type of peel necessary is customized for each patient depending on his or her skin type and level of sun damage. Patients that experience the most dramatic results are those with blemished skin, or those with excessively sun-damaged skin. Although the most common area for treatment is the face, the neck, chest, arms, and legs may also be treated. Superficial peels are useful for treating blotchy skin, and require no anesthesia or sedation. Minor redness is experienced immediately post-treatment, but subsides within a few hours. Most often, a series of superficial peels yields smoother more even textured skin, however intermediate deep chemical peels may be necessary to obtain the desired results.
Obagi®Blue Peel A one to four layer application of TCA (trichloracetic) acid that is mixed with a special blue solution which indicates the depth of penetration of the TCA acid. Layers of damaged, dead skin cells exfoliate during the next 7 to 10 days and are replaced by newer, healthier, more vibrant skin. It is specifically designed to correct unwanted pigmentation due to acne, sun damage, hormonal changes, or age, and refines the overall texture of the skin treated.
Lactic Acid Peel Theraderm’s 70% Lactic Acid Peel is indicated for the rejuvenation of sun-damaged skin, acne, unwanted pigmentation, fine lines, and actinic damage. It actually increases new cell growth, stimulates collagen production, and new elastic fibers in the deeper dermal layers.
Jessner’s Peel® A combination of peeling agents that gives even deeper results than the 70% Lactic Acid Peel. Ingredients include lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol, are roughly 14% in concentration in the solution. Unlike the Lactic Acid Peel, one may associate a little down time with the Jessner’s Peel because there is significant exfoliation and flaking.
