The Woodlands Eyelid Surgeons

Many people are unhappy with the appearance of droopy upper or lower eyelids. In some instances, excessive, sagging, or wrinkled skin may even interfere with a person's vision. If you have experienced any of the above problems, have lost your natural upper eyelid crease, or have puffy pouches of fat in your upper or lower lids, you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

The Woodlands eyelid surgeons at The Freeman Center for Aesthetic Surgery are here to help you achieve your personal aesthetic goals and can help improve your vision if excessive eyelid skin is making it difficult for you to see properly.

Procedure Description

Our cosmetic eyelid surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. Incisions are made where a natural crease should occur in the upper lids or below the lash line in the lower lids. Through these incisions, excess fat and skin are removed.

If there is only excess fat in the lower lids, it may be removed from inside the lid with no external scar or incision (transonjunctival blepharoplasty).

Recuperation & Healing

The Woodlands eyelid surgeons at The Freeman Center for Aesthetic Surgery will meet with you personally to discuss what you can expect in terms of recovery time for your specific procedure.

In most cases, all sutures can be taken out 7-10 days following the procedure. Any initial discomfort can usually be controlled through the use of oral medication.

Bruising and light sensitivity will likely be present for a week or two, and swelling will disappear after a few weeks.

Contact lenses can be worn as soon as it becomes comfortable to wear them?typically within 3-7 days following the procedure.

Additionally, a forehead lift, face lift, chemical peel, or laser skin resurfacing may enhance your results.

Intended Results

After your procedure, you should notice a more youthful and rested appearance of the eyes. Wrinkle lines will be softened, although not removed, and any vision impairments will be attended to, resulting in a widening of the visual field.

Note

All surgical procedures can be risky. The Woodlands eyelid surgeons at The Freeman Center for Aesthetic Surgery will discuss with you any risk factors you may exhibit before your procedure. While some minor complications occur (occasionally) with these procedures, major complications are rare.

Insurance Guidelines

If you are undergoing eyelid surgery to improve your vision, your insurance company may cover the procedure costs. Otherwise, the procedures are considered to be cosmetic and you will bear full responsibility for covering all expenses.

How Long Does It Last?

If you are receiving treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, injections will cause temporary paralysis of the muscles in the treated area, softening the appearance of wrinkles. Because the effects are temporary, re-injection will be necessary anywhere within three to ten months.
