The Woodlands Fat Grafting Surgeons

As people age, their bodies tend to change in dissatisfactory or aesthetically-displeasing manners. Wrinkles form, scarring becomes more prominent, and certain regions of the body lose their full, youthful appearances. With modern medical procedures and technology, however, there are minimally invasive surgery options to restore the appearance you possessed in your former years. Fat grafting is an operative process in which the surgeon removes fat from certain discrete areas of the body, such as the thighs or the hips, and injects it into contoured areas of the body in order to fill them out.

The Woodlands fat grafting surgeons of The Freeman Center for Aesthetic Surgery are here to help you attain the cosmetic goals you have set for your body. To learn more about our services, please contact our office today at 281-210-3196.

Procedure Information

It is important that you familiarize yourself with the fat grafting procedure if you think the process is right for you. By learning about how the surgery is carried out and what you should expect from such an operation, you will encounter no surprises before, during, or after a fat graft.

In a fat graft procedure, what is known as a fat transfer is performed. During this process, the fat is collected (suctioned) from a distant donor area and re-injected into the defect area. A fat transfer may require sedation and/or local anesthesia if larger amounts of fat are to be collected. Small amounts of fat can be collected and transferred under local anesthesia.

Most commonly, fat grafting is used for lip augmentation purposes, although fat grafting may also be performed in order to reduce facial contours.

Recuperation and Healing

Postoperative pain following a fat graft procedure is usually minimal. The most common issues that patients experience are swelling and minor bruising. The length and intensity of these effects is highly variable, however, and are based on individual healing characteristics. They have the potential to last as long as two weeks. Ice and ibuprofen should help reduce the pain.

Intended Results

Fat grafting patients are typically hoping to see results that include the minimization of facial/other skin wrinkles and depressions. If fat grafting has been carried out in an effort to enhance the lips or fill out sallow cheeks, then patients should see an increase in the fullness and roundness of these areas.

Who is a good candidate?

Candidates for this procedure include those who have indentations in their skin, depressed scars, or deep wrinkles. Those with sallow cheeks or individuals who wish to augment their lips are also good candidates for this type of operations. Finally, fat grafts are also recommended for those with grooves, folds, or areas of soft tissue depression on their bodies.

Other Options

There are other options available to patients who feel as though fat grafting may not the best option for them and their needs. The use of other, synthesized injections is another popular method of reducing facial contours and enhancing lips and cheeks.

Sometimes, patients feel as though fat grafting will not meet all their needs regarding personal aesthetic goals. If that is the case for you, then you should familiarize yourself with other cosmetic operations that may couple well with fat grafts. These additional procedures that could enhance the result of fat transfers are facial cosmetic procedures such as facelift, eyelid lift, rhinoplasty, etc.
