Procedure Description

Male breast reduction surgery can be performed in a number of different ways. Typically, the procedure is done through liposuction, excision, or a combination of the two. Excision can also be used to remove unwanted skin that many men have after quick weight loss.

All of the above mentioned procedures are done on an outpatient basis and are conducted with the patient under general anesthesia. However, these procedures can be performed with sedation and local anesthesia.

Recuperation & Healing

Every person is different, and so the recovery process will likely differ from person to person. The Woodlands male breast reduction surgeons at The Freeman Center for Aesthetic Surgery will meet with you personally and will help you understand exactly what you can expect from your recovery process.

However, most patients can return home after a few hours to be cared for by family or friends.

A compressive wrap is placed around the treated area to minimize swelling and will be left on for a week or two after the procedure. Typically, 7-10 days after the surgery, sutures can be removed.

Additional Procedures

In addition to breast reduction surgery, your surgeon may recommend a liposuction of fat in the axilla (armpit area) or a contouring of the stomach through liposuction or a tummy tuck to enhance the effects of your procedure.

Note

All medical procedures bring with them some degree of risk. Your surgeon will examine your medical history and health carefully and will be able to determine what risks you particularly might face with this type of procedure. While minor complications do occasionally occur with male breast reduction surgery, major complications are very rare.

Insurance Guidelines

In some cases, this operation is covered by insurance companies. Be sure to check with your carrier and receive pre-approval before your procedure if you want your insurance company to cover the costs of your surgery.
