The Woodlands Vein Sclerosing Surgeons

If you have unsightly spider veins and are unhappy with the way they make your body look, then vein sclerosing may be the solution. These swollen, colorful lines most commonly arise in one's thighs, lower legs, and ankle regions, although they may show up anywhere on the body. While no one is certain of what causes this phenomenon, it is known that some individuals have a genetic predisposition to develop these unsightly veins.

If you are tired of hiding your spider veins under long and uncomfortable clothing, then the vein sclerosing surgeons at The Freeman Center for Aesthetic Surgery in the Woodlands can help improve your appearance. Call our offices today at 281-210-3196 to schedule a free consultation.

Procedure Description

During vein sclerosing, the doctor will inject a small amount of sclerosing agent (concentrated salt solution) into the visible spider veins using very small needles. This solution destroys the linings of the blood vessels, which causes them to clot and eventually be absorbed by the body. Magnification is typically used in order to optimize the accuracy of this procedure.

Vein sclerosing is usually complete after several separate injections into the affected areas. Sedation is not usually required, although some patients may experience mild discomfort caused by needle pricks and interaction of the medication with the body.

Recuperation & Healing

Following the sclerosing procedure, the patient will experience some mild skin discoloration for five to seven days. Aside from that, physical discomfort is usually minimal. The patient can reduce any soreness with mild pain medication.

The final result is evident in 10 to 14 days.

Intended Results

The intended result of this procedure is to remove unwanted spider veins on the legs and/or face. Vein sclerosing may also be used on other areas of the body.

Other Options

Vein sclerosing is the ideal solution for patients with normal-sized spider veins. For very small vessels, laser treatment may suffice. If the patient does not mind wearing heavy clothing or special make-up, these items may be used to conceal spider veins.

Insurance Guidelines

This procedure is considered to be a cosmetic treatment, and is therefore not typically covered by insurance. Contact your provider to find out the full details of your coverage plan.

Who is a Candidate?

Vein sclerosing is used on people who have unsightly spider veins on the legs and/or face. Its specific application is to remove spider veins, and cannot be used for any other type of cosmetic procedure. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined through a consultation with the plastic surgeon. All surgeries have some risks associated with them, and sometimes, minor complications will arise, but they have no effect on the outcome of the procedure. Major complications are rare.
